United Nations Economic and Social Council

The United Nations Economic and Social Council acts as one of the 6 main organs of the United Nations. Focused on 3 central dimensions of sustainable development, that being economic, social, and environmental, this branch serves as a coordinator and body for political and social advancement globally. The topics selected for this year's CTMUN conference have an emphasis on issues affecting those in need of both justice and security as conditions become increasingly dire and inequitable.

Addressing the Need for Anti-Corruption Measures for Public Companies and Entities on a Global Scale: As practices and normalization of corruption continue to undermine the ideals in which ECOSOC hold true for the betterment of all mankind, such as though poor and improper implementation of existing countermeasures, the use of "loopholes" to evade just repercussions, and idealized exceptions amongst the international community, resources are wasted, economies on every scale are weakened, and livelihoods amongst people internationally are destroyed. Whilst analyzing previous measures taken by members states in the past, this committee's main goals will consist collaborating to construct tangible and functional ways to combat corruption, with an emphasis on the private sector, to target these exploitative and predatory practices on a global scale.

Protecting Indigenous Economies from the Effects of Climate Change: With the threat of climate change effecting various aspects of life on a global scale, those within indigenous communities around the world have been faced with issues such as displacement, food insecurity, and erasure of their indigenous land and resources uprooting their economic and social stability. This committee serves as grounds for effectively and creatively examine and address issues involving the ever-changing climate and its relation with those facing a great threat to the rich livelihoods they hold dear.

This committee follows parliamentary procedure as defined in our Standard Committee Parley Pro Document. However, procedure during committee may be modified at the Chair’s discretion.

Position Paper

All delegates wishing to be considered for an award must submit a position paper before the start of conference. Position paper quality will be included in consideration of awards, however paper quality will not hold as much weight in award consideration as actual committee performance. Position papers are meant to ensure a basis for delegate research and help delegates feel confident while participating during the conference.
